Typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng, Awaken Filipinos’ Bayanihan Spirit

Just a week after Ondoy dumped the heaviest rainfall in more than four decades in Philippines history, Typhoon Pepeng hits the country, washing away homes, flooding almost every part of Manila and other provinces. These caused 710 people dead and caused millions of pesos in damage. Damage to infrastructure exceeded $107 million, other officials said. The agriculture sector suffered $397 million in damage with half a million hectares of rice lands flooded.
These tragedy awaken’s the “Bayanihan Spirit ” of the Filipino. Filipino’s from all classes, rich or poor, volunteered time and effort, and donated cash and goods for those in need. Celebrities and politicians were felt that time. The Filipinos were there for each other. These incident proves that in time of need the Filipinos will unite for the benefit of others and for their country.

Live, Laugh and Love

“It’s like rain, on your wedding day. It’s a free ride, when you’ve already paid. It’s a good advice, that you just didn’t take, and who would have thought it figures?” This is a part of my favorite song, “Ironic”. This song gives me a realization why sometimes, life is unfair…yes, sometimes life is ironic.

When I was young, my mom often scold me for being naughty… doing things that she reminded me not do to, like playing in the rain, sleeping late, staying in our neighbor’s house and sometimes sleeping there with my friends. Well, maybe I’m one of those disobedient kids some parents have. But I come to realize as grew old, that every people not just I, have experienced doing things that they were not supposed to do, like disobeying and breaking rules…maybe because, life is full of irony. People tend to do things which is the opposite of what they have to.

Things happen…sometimes, it favors us, but sometimes it fails to satisfy our wants. It’s like attending class early in the morning, preparing for the examination and finding out that the professor is not there, well, that favors most of the students. The bad side is when you exert time and effort reviewing for the exam but you failed.

Well, for me, God has his own way of reaching us. He fills the world with irony so that when we think that our lives are messed up by those ironies we can now see him, waiting for us to hold on. Let’s not feel so much affected by the bad things happening. There’s no reason for us to surrender and feel bad. Let’s think positive and vies life as what God wants us to. Life is beautiful…so live, laugh and love.

What Color is in?

Green and blue, the two battling colors during the UAAP season when it comes to basketball. The colors represent the schools, competing for their honor- LaSalle and Ateneo.

Colors, give identity to something or someone, gives life and beauty to a place, to a thing or to a person.

Yellow and orange are the dominant colors in this season. These colors represent the two parties competing for the role of governing the country. The other candidates? Well, people don’t mind them. They were blinded by the fact that who is more popular or who appears on TV more often is a better choice.

At first, orange is first on the row, carrying the name of Manny Villar. A man who came from a very poor family but because of what he calls “sipag at tiyaga”, he now become the richest senator that we have. Do you believe it? Well, that’s what all his commercials on the television say, appearing to almost all programs on every TV stations, almost every minute. That, get the interest and somehow trust of many people, that he ranked number one on the survey, not before President Corry Aquino died.

The death of President Aquino gave rise for the hope of the Filipino to have a kindhearted and loyal President like her. Noynoy, her only son, gets the sympathy of the people, asking him to run for presidency. After a long decision making, he decided to run for president without enough knowledge of governing the country. The other popular candidate Mar Roxas, gave way for him and gave his support to Noynoy. Now, the pressure is in his shoulder. Is he worthy for the trust of the Filipino people? That, we'll never know.

Now that the 2010 election is getting nearer, it’s for us to think who and what to believe. After all, we are the one who will suffer and struggle for a wrong decision. Let’s be wise, and don’t be blinded by the brightness of their color. What color is in? What color will you choose?
